Hong Kong Sightseeing and touring guide

Hong Kong is located on the water, with the foot of the mountains at the waters edge. There are many wonderful locations to go walking, hiking or cycling.

We highly recommend Victoria peak via the Peak Train. Or when its too busy you can take the bus number 15C for 10HKD from Pier 7 of the Star ferry (Central) on the Hong Kong side.

The Peak train is a nice alternative, it's faster but usually very busy. If you don't mind queuing you can take the train up to the peak.

To take the peak train you can take the metro to MTR Central Station, take Exit J2. Turn right through charter garden, cross Queen's road central and walk up Garden Road. You will pass the Bank of China Tower and Citibank Plaza on your left with St John's Cathedral on your right.

At the top there is a shopping center, a range of good restaurants and bars. We recommend going up around 3-4pm, having a coffee on the terrace of the bars at the top of the 2nd shopping center and watching the sunset go down. At around 7pm there is Hong Kong Light show as well, which is spectacular from the top.

Horse Racing

As gambling is illegal in the mainland, Hong Kong is home to 2 fantastic race courses with races twice a month.

The best option is to come to the Shatin racecourse if you're coming from mainland China as it's not far from the border and there are direct MTR metro trains to the racecourse. It takes about 30 mins from the border to get there.

There are usually 10-13 races, 30 minutes apart. The races start at 12 or 12:30. We recommend paying the extra 100HKD when you enter to get access to the members area, where you can bet without filling out a betting ticket and you can get closer to the horses before they race.

How to get there:

Take the MTR Metro to Luohu or Hung Hom via the racecourse. Note: There are 2 different trains on the race days on the same route. 1 will go via the racecourse. Make sure you take this one.

Take the MTR to Racecourse station. You can walk into the racecourse from the MTR station.
