Responsibilities
Be a positive role model and demonstrate high moral standards in school and within the community;
Sets instructional outcomes while using assessment to develop and demonstrate student knowledge;
Responsively creates a culture for learning and classrooms of respect and rapport;
Help students develop self-awareness, make career choices, and prepare for overseas study;
Deliver assigned courses using a variety of appropriate and engaging instructional methods;
In collaboration with peers, develop detailed lesson plans aligned to both scope and student needs;
Maintain records in Power School SIS, including progress reports and report cards;
Understand requirements and learning outcomes of British Columbia and MLES World School curricula;
Independently manage students to create an organized and disciplined learning environment;
Diagnose, analyse, and differentiate lessons to meet the needs of struggling and advanced students;
Support non-native English-speaking students to meet the learning goals outlined by the curriculum;
Develop proficiency with and contribute materials using Canvas and other remote learning tools;
Adapt, reflect and grow in diverse professional and cross-cultural circumstances;
Make a s rong con rib ion o he school s e ra-curricular program including clubs and school events;
Attend weekly assembly, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities;
Uses questioning and discussion techniques in non-native English-speaking learning environments;
The Ideal Candidate:
Completed high school and bachelor s degree in English at an accredited university in a native-English country OR meets TOEFL/IELTS standards;
Holds a teaching certificate (license or PGCE) from Canada, United Kingdom, United States, Ireland, Australia New Zealand, or South Africa;
Completed placement/practicum/student teaching at middle/high school level, holds QTS/QTLS, or equivalent experience;
Has clean criminal record and maintains lifestyle compatible with the laws of the PRC;

Full support for work permit; reimbursement of document authentication and visa application costs;
CAD 53,000-71,000 per year salary based upon verifiable teaching experience;
Option to receive portion of salary in overseas bank account, re-sign bonus: 1,000 CAD;
Approximately 12 weeks 70 days paid leave per year: less than 190 working days per year;
Monday-Friday 7:30-16:30 schedule; approximately 25 teaching hours per week, or 20 blocks;
Annual return flights for teacher and dependents in China; paid up front with 100 CAD baggage credit;
5,000 RMB settlement allowance; 3% pension plan a ailable after two years of employment;
5 full days annually and half a day each month of paid professional development;
Up to 20 days of sick leave annually; bereavement, maternity, and paternity leave.
Subsidized fees for dependents attending a Maple Leaf International or Foreign Nationals School;
Reimbursement of fees for BC Certificate of Qualification if position requires.
