Shanghai is configured to restore the last batch of bedrooms built at the beginning of the 1950s in a complex that commemorates the history and urban changes of the city.

A total of 12 buildings located in the new Changhai village of the Yangpu District form the remaining cluster of the bedrooms that were built in 1952 in response to President Mao Zedong's call to provide living spaces to the Workers

Each building housed 10 families. Shanghai had built around 2,000 buildings of this type, most of which were located in the Yangpu and Polou districts.

Most of the buildings were demolished when relocation efforts began at the beginning of the 2000s.

According to Sun Hui, secretary of the neighborhood party, all Residents in buildings have agreed with the relocation plan.

Two buildings, which are relatively well preserved, will be transformed into a museum. The 10 remaining buildings will be restored and will be used to adapt to office spaces, as well as public and commercial comforts.

The local community is currently organizing daily conferences on the history of Shanghai and the Yangpu District during the last century. These conferences will last until July 1.
